This beat tape is made with samples of string sections to create a symphonic and cinematic atmosphere. The open ended concept allows for many shifts in dynamics and lush textures through the use of violin, viola, cello, double bass and harp. Through these instruments, the listener is able to travel through many musical cultures and ride the relentless groove.
With Strings is also an homage to the numerous jazz albums of the same name, primarily from the late 1950's. Several albums titled With Strings in this period were, unfortunately, a record label's attempt to water down or repackage modern jazz as something more palatable to a mainstream audience. That being said, some of these records were brilliant masterpieces that sound hauntingly beautiful to this day.
